MELNIK Commercial Brokers · Dubai, UAE
SBLC & Escrow Coordination for Gold Brokerage
For wholesale gold introductions, settlement structures such as an SBLC or an escrow arrangement may be discussed only where the buyer, seller, their banks and any authorised escrow provider agree to them. MELNIK coordinates commercial introductions; it does not issue SBLCs, hold funds, operate escrow or guarantee settlement.
A clear outline for parties considering broker-led gold introductions where 300 kg, 500 kg or other commercial volumes may require a documented banking and settlement discussion.

Volume-led commercial brief
The enquiry can identify a proposed commercial volume, such as 300 kg or 500 kg, together with the intended delivery, inspection and settlement framework.
SBLC and bank coordination
If an SBLC is considered, its issuance, wording, value, bank acceptance and conditions are matters solely for the transaction parties, their banks and professional advisers.
Escrow handled by authorised providers
Any escrow arrangement must be agreed directly by the parties with an appropriately authorised escrow provider. MELNIK does not receive, hold, control or release transaction funds.
SBLC explained
What an SBLC is — and what it is not
A standby letter of credit (SBLC) is a bank-issued, independent undertaking in favour of a named beneficiary. It is usually designed as a back-up mechanism: the beneficiary may make a demand only in the circumstances and with the documents specified in the instrument.
It is not a purchase order, a gold allocation, a delivery confirmation or an escrow account. The commercial contract remains between the buyer and seller; the issuing bank assesses a presentation against the SBLC text. The parties should obtain their own bank and legal advice before relying on any instrument.
From commercial agreement to a possible draw
The instrument should follow, not replace, a clearly documented underlying transaction and independent bank review.
- The buyer and seller agree the commercial contract, including the purpose of any security instrument and the conditions for a claim.
- The applicant asks its bank to issue an SBLC with defined amount, expiry, beneficiary, governing rules, presentation channel and documentary conditions.
- The beneficiary and its bank independently verify the instrument directly with the issuing or authorised bank before relying on it.
- The parties perform the underlying commercial obligations. A standby instrument is generally not the normal payment route for the goods.
- If a specified default occurs, the beneficiary may present the documents required by the SBLC. The issuing bank examines the presentation against the instrument terms.
A documentary, conditional back-up commitment
When validly issued and when a complying demand is made within its terms, an SBLC may provide the beneficiary with an independent bank undertaking. Its practical value depends on the issuing bank, the exact wording, the applicable rules, the amount, validity period, presentation conditions and the bank’s confirmation or authentication arrangements.
Not a substitute for diligence or delivery controls
An SBLC does not by itself prove that gold exists, meets specifications, will be delivered, has clean title, or that every party will perform. It does not replace KYC/KYB, sanctions screening, assay, logistics, legal review, bank acceptance or an authorised escrow arrangement. MELNIK does not issue, hold, confirm, monetise or guarantee an SBLC.
Ask for the precise bank meaning — not a label
“Open SBLC” and “closed SBLC” are not standardised SBLC categories in the principal rule sets. Different parties may use these labels informally to describe disclosure, a banking communication channel, availability, amendment status or another feature. The label alone does not establish validity, transferability, confirmation, payment rights or bank acceptance.
Before proceeding, require the parties and their banks to state in writing what the term means for the particular instrument, including its issuer, beneficiary, amount, expiry, governing rules, SWIFT/authentication route, whether confirmation is requested, and the exact documents required for a draw.
How it works
- Define the commercial enquiry, product, indicative volume and authorised representatives.
- Put confidentiality and non-circumvention controls in place before sensitive information is shared.
- Coordinate a broker-led introduction between the relevant authorised commercial parties.
- Allow the parties, their banks and advisers to independently assess any SBLC, escrow, delivery and settlement proposal.
- Execute only those transaction-specific agreements that are approved by the contracting parties and relevant institutions.
Points to clarify before discussing SBLC or escrow
- The proposed gold volume, delivery sequence, inspection or assay requirements and transaction timetable.
- Which party proposes the SBLC or escrow structure and which regulated institution would review or provide it.
- Corporate authority, KYC/KYB, source-of-funds and sanctions-screening materials requested by the relevant parties or banks.
- The written transaction documents that allocate title, delivery, payment, fees and risk between the contracting parties.
